DEFINITIONS TOEIC

TOEIC stands for Test of English for International Communication. TOEIC is used to measure the English language proficiency of non-English speakers to use English daily in an international working environment.

TOEIC is an English proficiency test for people whose native language is not English. TOEIC test to measure the English language proficiency for individuals working in International environment in their daily life.

Its values ​​indicate how well people can communicate in English with other people in business, trade and industry. This test does not require any special knowledge or terms that are not common.

USE TOEIC

The TOEIC test is deemed suitable for employees or staff who use English in their environment such as businesses, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, international meetings, conferences and sporting events. Similarly, staff management, sales and technical employees in international business, trade and industry who need English in their work.

Organizations that require English proficiency for employees and individuals who want to demonstrate their ability to put English in the workplace would prefer to use the TOEIC test.

Many companies or organizations requesting the convening of the TOEIC for recruiting, promoting or placing employees. TOEIC is also very beneficial for university graduates or job seekers who want to equip their CV, also for anyone who wants to test the ability to communicate in English.

HISTORY TOEIC

ETS (Educational Testing Service) floated the TOEIC test to measure English language skills in a business environment that is used internationally. The main figure is the originator of the TOEIC test is one Japanese national, Yasuo Kitoka. In 1970, Kitoka propose to the ETS to make test questions based business for Japanese workers who work in an international company. ETS began developing in 1977 TOEIC test and TOEIC test was first performed in Japan in 1979.

Now there is discussion about the use TOEIC alignment to international standards. If abroad, TOIEC been very popular. The proof, of the existing data, it turns out this test has been used about 10,000 companies in the world. Perhaps, it could be because in addition to an international standard, also TOEIC which has been around since 1979.

TEST FORM

The test using paper and pencil , multiple choice form because the use of audio , images , and writing ( reading ) to evaluate the language skills of participants. This test is multiple choice with the amount of about 200 grains.

This test is divided into 2 sections , section 1 : listening and sexy 2 : reading .

Section 1 : Listening

Will be exposed to a number of questions and a short conversation in English , and participants were asked to answer based on the information that was heard.

•Part 1 : Pictures ( Photographs ) consists of 20 questions .
•Part 2 : Question - response ( Question and Responses ) consists of 30 questions .
•Part 3 : Conversation concise ( Conversations Short ) consists of 30 questions .
•Part 4 : Dialog short ( Short Talks ) consists of 20 questions .

Section 2 ; Reading

Participants will read a variety of materials and asked to answer questions based on the content of reading .

• Part 5 : The sentence is not perfect ( incomplet Sentences ) comprised of 40 questions .
• Part 6 : Finding fault line ( Error Recognitions ) consists of 20 questions .
• Part 7 : Reading ( Reading comprehensions ) consists of 40 questions .

DURATION TIME

Test time is 2 ½ hours, with details:

• Section 1: 45 minutes
• Section 2: 75 minutes
This time includes the time to fill out some forms associated with the test.

SCORE

TOEIC scores starting from number 400 to 990 .
There are six levels namely :
• Level 0 / 0 + Novice ( score of 10-250 )
• Elementary level 1 ( a score of 255-400 )
• 1 + Intermediate level (score 405-600 )
• Basic Working Proficiency level 2 ( a score of 605-780 )
• Level 2 + Advance Working profiency (score 785-900 )
• Level 3/3 + General Professional Proficiency (score 905-990 ) .

An exceptional candidates must have a minimum TOEIC score of 400 . While a prospective manager must have a minimum TOEIC score of 800. Someone who has a TOEIC score of 405-600 for example , in listening could understand explanations relating to the daily routine tasks , understand the announcements during the trip and mastered limited social conversation. In terms of speaking able to explain the responsibilities of work and academic background as well as a discussion about the project in the past and the future.

While in the case of reading still need a dictionary to understand the technical documents .
And lastly in terms of writing people who have intermediate level was able to write short memos , letters of complaint and fill out a simple application form .

 

MEANING

PENGERTIAN TOEIC

TOEIC adalah singkatan dari Test of English for International Communication. TOEIC digunakan untuk mengukur kemampuan bahasa Inggris penutur non-bahasa Inggris dalam penggunaan bahasa Inggris sehari-hari di lingkungan kerja internasional.

TOEIC merupakan tes keahlian berbahasa Inggris untuk orang-orang yang bahasa ibunya bukan Bahasa Inggris. Tes TOEIC dapat mengukur kemampuan berbahasa Inggris untuk individu yang bekerja di lingkungan Internasional dalam kesehariannya.

Nilai-nilainya menunjukkan seberapa baik seseorang dapat berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris dengan individu lainnya dalam berbisnis, perdagangan dan industri. Tes ini tidak memerlukan pengetahuan khusus atau istilah yang tidak umum.

PENGGUNAAN TOEIC

Tes TOEIC dipandang cocok bagi karyawan atau staf yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris di lingkungannya seperti bisnis, hotel, rumah sakit, restoran, pertemuan internasional, konferensi dan even olahraga. Demikian pula staf manajemen, sales dan karyawan teknik dalam bisnis internasional, perdagangan dan industri yang membutuhkan Bahasa Inggris dalam pekerjaan mereka.

Organisasi yang mempersyaratkan kemahiran berbahasa Inggris bagi karyawannya dan perorangan yang ingin menunjukkan kemampuan mereka memakai bahasa inggris di tempat kerja akan lebih memilih menggunakan test TOEIC.

Banyak perusahaan atau lembaga yang meminta diselenggarakannya TOEIC untuk merekrut, mempromosikan atau menempatkan karyawannya. TOEIC juga sangat bermanfaat bagi lulusan universitas atau pencari kerja yang ingin melengkapi CV mereka, juga bagi siapa saja yang ingin menguji kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris.

SEJARAH TOEIC

ETS (Educational Testing Service) mengambangkan tes TOEIC untuk mengukur kemampuan bahasa Inggris dalam lingkungan bisnis yang digunakan secara internasional. Figur utama pencetus tes TOEIC ini adalah seseorang berkebangsaan Jepang, Yasuo Kitoka. Pada tahun 1970, Kitoka mengusulkan kepada ETS untuk membuat soal tes berbasis bisnis bagi para pekerja Jepang yang bekerja di perusahaan internasional. ETS mulai mengembangkan tes TOEIC pada tahun 1977 dan tes TOEIC pertama kali dilakukan di Jepang pada tahun 1979.

Sekarang berkembang wacana tentang TOEIC yang menggunakan keselarasan standar internasional. Jika di luar negeri, TOIEC sudah sangat populer. Buktinya, dari data yang ada, ternyata tes ini telah digunakan sekitar 10.000 perusahaan di dunia. Mungkin, bisa jadi karena selain berstandar internasional, juga TOEIC yang telah ada sejak 1979.

BENTUK TEST

Tesnya menggunakan kertas dan pensil, bentuk soalnya pilihan ganda yang menggunakan audio, gambar, dan tulisan (bacaan) untuk mengevaluasi kemampuan bahasa peserta. Tes ini berbentuk pilihan ganda dengan jumlah soal sebanyak 200 butir.

Tes ini terbagi menjadi 2 seksi, seksi 1: listening dan seksi 2: reading.

Seksi 1: Listening

Akan diperdengarkan sejumlah pertanyaan dan percakapan singkat dalam bahasa inggris, dan peserta diminta menjawab berdasarkan informasi yang didengar.

• Part 1: Gambar (Photographs) terdiri dari 20 soal.
• Part 2: Pertanyaan – respon (Question and Responses) terdiri dari 30 soal.
• Part 3: Percakapan ringkas (Short Conversations) terdiri dari 30 soal.
• Part 4: Dialog singkat (Short Talks) terdiri dari 20 soal.

Seksi 2; Reading

Peserta akan membaca berbagai material dan diminta menjawab pertanyaan berdasarkan  isi bacaan.

• Part 5: Kalimat tidak sempurna (Incomplet Sentences) teridiri dari 40 soal.
• Part 6: Mencari kesalahan kalimat (Error Recognitions) terdiri dari 20 soal.
• Part 7: Membaca (Reading Comprehensions) terdiri dari 40 soal.

Durasi Waktu

Waktu tes adalah 2½ jam, dengan perincian:

• Seksi 1: 45 menit
• Seksi 2: 75 menit

Waktu ini mencakup waktu untuk mengisi beberapa form terkait dengan test.

SKOR

Skor TOEIC dimulai dari angka 400 hingga 990.

Ada enam level yakni:

·         level 0/0+ Novice (skor 10-250)

·         level 1 Elementary (skor 255-400)

·         level 1+ Intermediate (skor 405-600)

·         level 2 Basic Working Proficiency (skor 605-780)

·         level 2+ Advance Working Profiency ( skor 785-900)

·         level 3/3+ General Professional Proficiency (skor 905-990).

Seorang calon karyawan biasa minimal harus memiliki skor TOEIC sebesar 400. Sementara seorang calon manajer minimal harus memiliki skor TOEIC sebesar 800.

Seseorang yang memiliki skor TOEIC 405-600 misalnya, dalam mendengarkan mampu mengerti penjelasan yang berkaitan dengan tugas rutin sehari-hari, mengerti pengumuman-pengumuman selama dalam perjalanan dan mengusai percakapan social yang terbatas.

Dalam hal berbicara mampu menerangkan tanggung jawab kerja dan latar belakang akademis serta melakukan diskusi tentang proyek di masa lalu dan masa yang akan datang.

Sedangkan dalam hal membaca masih membutuhkan kamus untuk memahami dokumen-dokumen teknik.

Dan terakhir dalam hal menulis orang yang memiliki level intermediate itu mampu menulis memo pendek, surat komplain dan mengisi formulir aplikasi sederhana.
